SNOKOTE®CL

Snokote®-CL protects Wire Ropes, ROV lift Umbilical, Flanges, and Marine Equipment against corrosion

In marine, offshore and other corrosive environments, corrosion is often seen within just weeks, drastically shortening the life of equipment. Corrosion relentlessly attacks unprotected metals. Applying protective coatings that don’t last long and wash away, is not the most effective and best use of your money, time, and manpower.

Snokote manufactured by Rovsco, Inc. in Houston offers a long lasting solution to this problem. It was specifically designed for use in environments where rust and corrosion are problematic. After application Snokote bonds with the metal to form a long lasting barrier against moisture and other corrosive elements. Snokote requires no curing time and stays in place during the harshest operating conditions.

Using Xtreme™ High Pressure Cable Lubricator
(Wire rope / ROV lift umbilical Application)

To protect wire rope or ROV lift umbilical against marine corrosion, Snokote is applied under high pressure to penetrate and coat armor wires, with specially designed cable lubricators. Split seals are fitted around the wire rope or ROV lift umbilical and clamped in place by tightening the two halves of the lubricator. The unit is coupled to a air-powered high pressure lubricant pump via a flexible hose, and Snokote is forced into the lubricator chamber.

A good coat and penetration deep within the armor wire layers is achieved by controlling the speed of the cable traveling through the lubricator and by adjusting the Snokote pressure entering the chamber. Snokote pressure entering the chamber can be varied by controlling the air flow to the lubricant pump. Air supply to the lubricant pump should be between 90 – 100 psi. During lubrication of a compact, non- rotating wire rope, with seals in good condition, Snokote pressure inside the chamber will rise to approx. 2000 psi, allowing lubrication deep within the armor wire layers.

During the lubrication process, to keep the lubricator stationary while the wire rope is traveling through it, the lubricator is anchored by two chains to any fixed object, such as a guard rail.

To provide a good and continuous protection against corrosion in ocean and marine environment, coating of wire rope or ROV lift umbilical every 3-4 months is recommended.

Flanges in LNG plants, chemical plants, refineries, offshore platforms, onshore oil fields, ships, paper mills and underground pipelines

Flanges in LNG plants, chemical plants, refineries, offshore platforms, onshore oilfields, ships, paper mills, and underground pipelines are the most common trouble area when it comes to corrosion, especially the flange voids and crevices.

Corrosion and eventual breakdown of the metal which causes leaks around seals and gaskets can be hazardous and may result in safety violations. Repair or replacement of corroded flanges causes lengthy down times and high costs.

To prevent corrosion up to fifteen years Snokote CL must be applied to keep moisture and corrosive elements away. To use, apply adhesive plastic tape around the flange gap encapsulating the cavity. Snokote is then heated and liquefied, and then injected through a plastic feeding tube filling the entire gap. Snokote CL inside the gap forms a barrier against moisture and other corrosive elements. It requires no curing time and plastic tape may be removed after application allowing a full visual inspection of the flange.

Snokote protects completely; the flange, the bolts, and the joints.
